A law degree is the degree conferred on someone who successfully completes studies in law. Different degrees are conferred on each country to allow graduates to practice law.

There are many names for law degrees, for example:

	Bachelor of Laws in the United Kingdom , Canada , Australia and various other Commonwealth countries
	Juris Doctor in the United States
	Juristisches Staatsexamen ("state exam in law") in Germany
	Dottore in Giurisprudenza ("Doctor of Jurisprudence") in Italy
	Licenciatura en Derecho ("Bachelor in Law") in Mexico

The most commonly known are:

	degree of Bachelor of Laws (or Baccalaureate of Laws)
	Juris Doctor degree.

The Bachelor of Laws degree (LL.B.), the most common law degree for qualification as a barrister and/or solicitor in common law countries (e.g., the United Kingdom, New Zealand, Singapore, etc.), is a usually three or four year undergraduate degree.

In the U.S. , the J.D. is the degree required for admission to the bar in nearly all states. It replaced the Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) degree that had previously been the standard degree for those seeking to practice law.

Whilst each law degree program is unique, they generally cover the same core subjects such as:

	contracts
	torts
	civil procedure
	criminal law
	property law
	constitutional law
	public interest law
	environmental law
	intellectual property law
	international law and
	employment law and
	lawyering skills, professional responsibility and legal writing.

Within each of these subjects, importance is often given to the competent management of:

	internal requirements – policies, procedures and instructions
	externally promoted policies and claims
	government regulations
	purchase orders, service level agreements, technical specifications & contracts and
	referenced documents, standards & codes.

For example, when acting as a regulator, a client or an employer your staff need to:
